“Our club fielded three teams for this competition at Wenvoe:

Monarchs: Tony, Nai, Mike W, Paul;

Marauders: Jim, Barney, Peter K, Liam;

Minotaurs: Roger, Mike J, Keith, Peredur.

The competition attracted 18 teams from clubs across the region and for most of the day the players basked in spring sunshine. Wenvoe PC provided a range of pistes to test the competitors and the results for our teams show that some coped better than others!

Congratulations to the Monarchs and the Marauders who finished fourth and fifth respectively, and commiserations to the Minotaurs who avoided the wooden spoon by one place.

But, as the photos show, if there had been a prize for best-dressed club we would have won hands down!”

President’s Cup – The Results!!!

“The Monkstone Pétanque Club fielded three teams for the President’s Cup on the 2nd of March 2014. Despite the pouring rain and bitter wind all three of the Monkstone’s teams (The Minotaurs, Marauders and the Monarchs) reached the semi-final of the Plate.

However, The Monkstone Marauders (John Barnes, Peter Kensett and Jim Harrison) managed to progress to the final to meet the Dambusters. By this time the rain had approached near monsoon conditions and both teams agreed to play one boule each to decide. Sadly the victory went to the Dambusters! Well done to them!

What could have been a great day was sadly spoilt by the weather. The result was nevertheless a good one for the team!”
