Cup for Clubs – The Final

The first leg of our final against Pontyclun PC takes place on Sunday, 20 March, at Dinas Powis (10.00am). We have still to agree the date of the second leg.

Selecting a squad for the final isn’t easy. As a club we are able to call upon a range of experienced players who no doubt would do us proud on the day. But I have to select eight players who I believe are currently best suited for this very important game.

Therefore, the squad is:

Bernard, Keith, Mike, Nai, Roger, Rose, Tony and Vickie.

BREAKING NEWS

The President’s Cup was today won by a team from Monkstone Petanque Club consisting of Barney, Keith, Nai and Andy. They fought their way through to the final where they had a stunning and convincing victory over a team from Monkstone Inn comprised of Ian Bailey, Glyn Attley and Jake Caston (Carlen RFC PC).

“Three Men in a Boat”, Bernard, Peter K and John M, were all at sea and had a terrible morning losing all three games, including one to the “Three Degrees” (see below) but came good in the afternoon to beat a teams from Caerleon and Brecon and take the Plate competition.

The “Three Degrees”, Vickie, Carol and Rose, after their triumph in the first game against the “Men in a Boat” went somewhat downhill but in the gathering gloom they heroically managed to avoid the wooden spoon by beating a team from Carlen RFC PC.

We must thank all those from the Club who helped to make yesterday a success by playing, setting up and clearing up, providing raffle prizes etc.

Particular thanks to Barbara who didn’t play but worked like a Trojan all day making sure that there was tea & coffee and biscuits for our guests, clearing up and generally doing all those little unnoticed jobs that are so necessary to keep an event running smoothly.

Cup for Clubs – Last Leg
