Weekly Update! – June Competitions

copy-Ladies_Thailand

June will soon be busting out all over and there are three competitions – two WPA and one club – to tempt members on Sunday to venture into pétanque realms further afield.

—————-

  • WPA National Doubles, 1 June, Brecon RFC PC;
  • Colin Ballett Open Doubles, 15 June, Penarth PC (The Kymin);
  • WPA National Singles, 22 June, Abergavenny PC.

Congratulations to the Monkstone team who last night won the fund-raising quiz at the Wheatsheaf in support of Jake Caston, Kon Tomczyk and Barbara Vaughan who will represent Wales next month at the European Veterans Championships in Lulela, Sweden. We wish them every success but don’t overdose on the meatballs
Best Wishes
Roger

On 14 May we had a visit from the directors of Confused.com. Martin Coriat, the Cardiff-based company’s CEO, hails from Paris and is a keen Pétanque player. He wanted to introduce his management team to the subtle skills of the game. Under the watchful guidance by Mike Jones and William, Martin and his colleagues enjoyed a very pleasant evening and expressed their gratitude for the club’s hospitality.

The photo below shows Mike demonstrating the important skill of standing in a circle. Sheer genius – it’s no wonder he’s club president.

The club is open on Wednesday evenings and Sunday mornings to anybody who wishes to have a go at the unusual and exciting game of Pétanque. Club members are always on hand to give a little introduction to the game and the atmosphere is always friendly!

Hopefully Martin and his team will be back in the near future for another good-natured game of boules!!

Update:- Welsh Pétanque League

wpa_pins1Once again the club’s three league sides have triumphed in the weekly league games with all three gaining points. The Monarchs won 3 – 1 in a tough fixture against Monkstone Inn, The Minotaurs drew in a close game against Cwins and, the Marauders won 3 – 1 against the Golden Mile.

This is how the two leagues currently stand with all three teams doing well:

The WPA league is well under way and Wednesday, 30 April, saw all three club teams in action:
———-
Marauders v Penarth Predators (Div 2 – Home)
Minotaurs v Creigiau Jacques (Div 2 – Away)
Monarchs v Monkstone Inn 1 (Div 1 – Away)

It turned out to be a highly successful evening with every team winning 3 -1. Well done to all the players!

Let’s hope this success continues throughout the season!
