As the weather has improved, so has the turnout at the Monkstone Pétanque Club’s Wednesday night training sessions!
Despite the cold, teams managed to successfully participate in two triples games.

Just a reminder to club members that no teams have been decided for the two Wenvoe competitions in March, so there’s room for other members to play if they want to!

Pétanque blog! – Number 1 – 12th February 2014
On Wednesday, club members gathered to brave the elements and participate in the first practice session since the team’s league announcement on Tuesday the 11th February.
Despite the rain, wind and hail, there was a productive evening of play followed by a few pints in the warm bar!
Members will meet again Saturday for the Valentine’s Ball and then on Sunday for another rainy day on the piste!

March sees the start of the new competition year and there are a number of competitions worth considering by members of our club.
Sunday 2nd March, the President’s Cup, this is an open triples competition to be hosted by the Wheatsheaf PC. Provided that the weather is reasonable it should be a good days play.
Sunday 16th March, Stuart Clarke Cup, this is another open triples competition to be hosted by Wenvoe PC. This was won by a team with Roger and Barney last year, let’s try and keep it in our club for 2014.
Sunday 23rd March, National Veterans (Over 55) Championship to be hosted again by Wenvoe PC. The winners of this competition will we invited to play in the European Championship in June.
I strongly recommend that as many teams possible enter these competitions, it will be good practice for the league.

Kicking off the club’s social calendar this year is the Saint Valentine’s Ball!
From 7.30-11.30pm on the 15th of February club members, friends and family are coming together at The Penylan Club to celebrate an evening of music, dancing, food and drink.
Dress to impress or come as you are, tickets cost £5 per-person and are available from Tony behind the bar and please bring a plate of food to share!
It’s guaranteed to be a fun start to 2014!!
