Tony on duty with the CEP

Tony Smith was elected as a member of the Board of Confédération Européenne de Pétanque (CEP) in 2012 and as part of his duties he assists in the running of European Championships (EC) held every year on mainland Europe.

This year Tony has been on duty for the Veterans EC, which took place in Lulea, Northern Sweden and most recently in Mersin, Turkey with the Women’s EC. Tony says “It all looks so relaxing, but it is three of the longest hard working days of the pétanque calendar, but very enjoyable”.

Bangers & Boules

Saturday 25 October, 2.30pm

Just a reminder that, weather permitting, this event will take place on the above date at the club. Just bring yourselves, your boules and some sausages. Friends and family are most welcome.

As William has outlined previously, we shall have a couple of games of boules, followed by a feast of sausages and then adjourn to the bar. It seems to have all the necessary components for a great day.

This promises to be the wurst afternoon of the season, so be sure to cumberland down. Don’t forget, chorizo you needs to bring some sausages and, at the risk of being salamist, I do urge you to book early. Frankfurterly, you can’t afford to miss this event.

Confirmation of attendance and all enquiries to William and Angela.

Grass to Gravel – Update.

27th September

On Saturday the 27th of September The Monkstone Petanque Club hosted a friendly competition at their piste with their friends from Penylan Bowling Club. The event was a reciprocal hosting from the previous week when several members from the Petanque club joined the bowlers for a friendly end-of-season ‘roll up’ on their beautiful green.

Both events were tremendously enjoyable, helped by the lovely warm weather experienced on both days. William McCarthy, one time petanque player who, shame upon shame deserted to the bowling fraternity, was instrumental in organising both competitions and did a terrific job.

Many thanks William and well done! Twelve ‘triples’ teams were sorted out, each comprising one petanque player and two extremely good bowlers or rugby boys. Each team played three games with alternate opposition. After a hard fought but extremely good humoured competition, the team captained by Liam Milton was declared the winner, whereupon everyone duly retired to the club to partake in a wonderful buffet and various refreshments.

The Monkstone Petanque Club looks forward to entertaining our bowling friends for many years to come.

Saturday 27th, 2.30pm?

All Club Members,

We have around 45 people participating, so it promises to be a very successful event. Club members are bringing food for the after-match buffet.

We would like to run a raffle in order to raise some funds for our club, so raffle prizes would be greatly appreciated. Please bring them with you on the day.
If you have any spare sets of boules, please bring them too.
Each participating club member will form a team with two bowlers; please arrive promptly on Saturday to enable William to organise the teams.
If you need any further details about Saturday’s event, contact William as he has all the information.
