MPC 2026 Club Singles

The 2nd annual Monkstone Club Singles were played under sunny skies on 22 August 2026. As last year the organiser was Claude Le Razavet and the control table was manned by Bernard Adshead. Presentations were made by Jeremy Sparkes.

The Mens’ Singles was contested by 16 members with a Pool Stage of 4 groups of 4  in the morning followed by Main and Plate Elimination competitions featuring the players ranked 1-8 and 9-16 after the morning session with QF, SF and Final. The Ladies’ Singles featured 6 entries and was played as a 5 game Round Robin.

After the morning session the players were ranked as follows:

The top 8 Players then contested the Main competition in which, after some exciting and skilful play and a tense final, Elijah Jeffers emerged as the 2026 Mens’ Singles Champion.

The bottom 8 players contested the Plate competition. Again after some skilful play. The quarter finals went much with the ranking with 3 of the top 4 winning. The exception was Peter Lippett who had been ranked at 8, but won his quarter final and went on to win the Plate Competition in a repeat of last year’s Repechage final.

Ladies’ Competition

Unlike the Men’s competition, the 2025 Champion, Penny Wooler, returned to defend her title. Going into the afternoon final 2 rounds Gill Clark was leading the pack but the competition was still wide open and some of the players improved on their morning performance while some di not do quite so well. in the end though it was Gill who managed to top the rankings after Round 5 and became the 2026 Ladies’ Singles Champion.
