WPA vs Big League

The inaugural challenge match between the WPA and the Big League took place in glorious sunshine at the Rising Sun, Abersychan, on 9 June and congratulations must go to the Monkstone players who contributed so much to the WPA’s victory by 27 games to 21.

Our club fielded 8 of the 16 players in the WPA team and won 19 of the 27 games, a magnificent effort by the four pairs of Monkstone players:

Bernard & Vickie, Paul & Lynda, Rose & Tony and Brian & Judith.

Well done!

League News: Division 2

The club’s two second division teams – Marauders and Minotaurs – have recorded their first league wins of the season. In cold and blustery conditions (well, it’s only May!), the Marauders played Creigiau Jacques while the Minotaurs took on Barn’s Wallace. As expected from two experienced clubs, the visiting teams proved worthy opponents but the Marauders and Minotaurs eventually won their respective matches, each team winning 3 – 1.

The results pushed the Minotaurs up to 5th in Division 2, while the Marauders still have work to do in 8th place.

Teams on the night:

Marauders – Roger Griffin, Mike Jones, John Chichester, Alan Welch

Minotaurs – Tony Smith, Rose Fiera, Brian Dreyer, Bernard Adshead.
