Round 9 of the Super League took place on a rather chilly Wednesday evening and was another double banked affair as the Monarchs v Marauders clash due on Tuesday evening was postponed due to the Wales v England clash in the World Cup.<\/span><\/p>\n

In the postponed game the following players were in action: Marauders – Phil Roberts & Keith Thomas and Gill Clark & Amanda Jenkins; Monarchs – Roger Griffin & Tony Smith and Roger Green & Keith Nott.<\/span><\/p>\n

Phil and Keith took an early 7-1 lead, thanks to Keith’s devilish pointing, but Tony and Roger fought back to 8-8. Undaunted, Phil and Keith pressed the throttle and cruised home 13-9. It was nip and tuck in the other game, until Roger Green and Notty opened up a 10-6 lead. Gill and Amanda then took a three to make it 10-9, but Monarchs kept their cool and won 13-9. All square at the break.<\/span><\/div>\n

In the second half, Tony and Roger finally got their game together and took an early lead over Marauders. At 6-2 down, Gill and Amanda still had a chance but Monarchs got a four to put the game to bed, eventually running out 13-2. The final game was a very tight affair. From a score of 5-5, Marauders nudged ahead with a slim lead, but Roger and Notty rallied to make it 10-9 to Monarchs. Phil and Keith were having none of this, kept their nerve and won 13-10. The 2-2 result overall was a true reflection of a match that no team deserved to lose.<\/span><\/div>\n

On pistes 1 & 2, Mystics took on Meteors (our 2 non WPA league teams). In the first 2 games Mystics Ian and Beryl McCarthy were up against Meteors Ian Campbell and Ash Seath.\u00a0 Ian and Ash got off to a good start and although Beryl and Ian came back at them with some good pointing Ian and Ash ran out winners 13 – 4.\u00a0 Meanwhile on the next piste, Mystics Tony Newton and Derek Dyer were making life difficult for Meteors Alex Skibinski and Richard King but Meteors managed to keep their noses in front and eventually won 13 – 7.\u00a0 So it was all square at the half point and all change.\u00a0 <\/span><\/div>\n

Piste 1 saw a very tight struggle with Ian Mc displaying some good shooting skills.\u00a0 The teams were tied at 8 all and it was only due to a 5 point end that Richard and Alex eventually won 13 – 8.\u00a0 In the final match it was again very tight with both Tony and Derek continually landing near the coche making life difficult this time for Ian and Ash.\u00a0 At one point Mystics were leading 7 – 6 but Ian and Ash finally got their act together and won their game 13 – 8.\u00a0 Final result was a 4-0 victory to Meteors but the Mystics gave them a really good fight and on another occasion it might have been a very different story.\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0<\/span><\/div>\n

So the champions and the wooden spooners have been decided but it\u2019s all to play for in Round 10 for the teams currently in 2nd<\/sup>,3rd<\/sup> and 4th<\/sup> places. <\/span><\/p>\n

In true World Cup reporting style here are the scenarios:<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n
Minotaurs<\/span><\/td>\n\n

They will remain in 2nd<\/sup> place if they win against Monarchs or if Marauders do not win against Meteors. If they draw against Monarchs and Marauders win against Meteors and turn round the current 22 game point deficit or if they lose against Monarchs and Marauders v Meteors is not a draw, they will finish 3rd<\/sup>.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n

Marauders<\/span><\/td>\n\n

They will be 2nd<\/sup> if they win against Meteors and Minotaurs lose against Monarchs provided they turn round the current 22 game point deficit. If they draw with Meteors, or Minotaurs do not lose to Monarchs, they will remain in 3rd<\/sup> place. If they lose to Meteors, they will finish 4th<\/sup>.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n

Meteors<\/span><\/td>\n\n

They will be 2nd<\/sup> if they win against Marauders and Minotaurs lose to Monarchs. If they do not win against Marauders, they will remain in 4th <\/sup>place.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n
